Transmutation magic is the ability to change the arrangement of one object into becoming something else of equal quantity. The laws of equivalent exchange are predominant in this style of magic, and this style of magic requires transmutation circles to be drawn prior to the magic being used. It is not a very combat-oriented magic, however it can possibly even prevent combat before it should ever emerge if used properly. This is a basic level of transmutation. To adepts that have trained their entire lives, typically only masters, transmutation can even enlarge, reduce, and even shapechange an object. Meaning, an advanced Transmutation Adept can enlarge an ally to grant them overwhelming power, reduce their size for stealth missions, or even shapechange them into being something else entirely. This can be applied to the Transmutation Adept himself/herself, or someone else, depending on who is within the transmutation circle. The drawback to this style of magic is that it relies solely on transmutation circles being drawn for it to be used. The benefit of this, however, is that it can rapidly draw on mana of the land, rather than the individual, meaning that a Transmutation Adept may very well never even touch upon their mana supplies. That is, unless the transmutation circle is on their own body. This would be the only exception to this rule.
